Employment opportunities for Child Development majors are growing as the number of working parents and “Preschool For All” programs increase. San Diego Miramar College Child Development training qualifies students to work in public and private early childhood settings and meets California state requirements. Parents, prospective foster parents, and students pursuing careers in nursing, psychology, recreation, family relations, elementary education and sociology will also benefit from child development courses.

FACILITY

The on-campus Child Development Center for preschool-aged children of San Diego Miramar College students serves as an ideal training lab.

  • Meets requirements for State of California Child Development Permits and California State Department of Social Services, Title 22, Community Care Licensing.

San Diego Miramar College is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

WHERE THE JOBS ARE • CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Students may apply for positions as preschool assistant teachers and aides, teachers, directors, family day care providers and owners of schools in the private and public sector. With a bachelor’s degree or higher, a student may qualify for openings in family support or health care agencies, public and private schools, community colleges and private industry.

ENROLLMENT

Enrollment is open to high school graduates and persons at least 18 years of age, with or without a high school diploma. Applicants should be in good health, responsible, have a friendly, outgoing personality with a genuine interest in children and their families.

COSTS

San Diego Miramar College is a community college with low tuition set by the California State Legislature. Nonresidents of California pay an additional tuition fee. Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, scholarships and financial aid are available for tuition and books.
